SJP and the Holocaust

A Safe Space for Holocaust Abuse

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters across North America are notorious for harboring anti-Semites who mock the Holocaust, show support for Hitler and wish death on Jews.

29 of these individuals are listed below, together with a sample of their hateful comments.

SJP Chapter Holocaust Scandals

Multiple SJP chapters have been complicit in their own abuses of the Holocaust. This includes disrupting Holocaust memorial days, comparing Jews to Nazis on social media and hosting radical speakers who make light of the national Jewish tragedy.

Radical Founder Repeatedly Abuses the Holocaust

The organization’s founder, UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian, has himself repeatedly abused the memory of the Holocaust in order to promote his radical anti-Israel agenda.

The hate that caused one of the worst national tragedies in living memory, is still active among us on North American campuses. Speak out against SJP's anti-Semitism and stop the spread of hatred.

SJP Chapters with Holocaust Scandals

SJP Ryerson University (Ryerson)

On November 29, 2016, it was alleged that the Ryerson chapters of SJP and Muslim Students Association (MSA) led a nearly 100-student walkout to prevent a student government vote on holding a Holocaust Education Week on campus.

Ryerson Hillel brought the Holocaust resolution before the Ryerson Student Union (RSU). Ryerson Hillel alleged that Ryerson SJP and MSA led the walkout which led to a loss of quorum and forced the vote to be cancelled.

On November 30, 2016, Students Supporting Israel (SSI) at Ryerson vice president Aeden O’Connor stated that “When presenting the motion we were snickered at and told to sit down and not present by other students. When it approached the time to vote on this motion a large group of students started messaging each other and coordinated a walk out to rid the assembly of quorum. This was done to silence Jewish students.”

SJP Ryerson vice president Omar Said initially endorsed an amendment to derail the resolution, stating that [00:01:27] “it shouldn’t be a week long” and that [00:01:45] “this week should include the ‘Palestinian Holocaust and shouldn’t just be toward the Jewish Holocaust’.” He also objected to having the UJA Federation help with programming because it was [00:00:25] “pro-Zionist” and a [00:02:06] “Jewish organization.”

On December 4, 2016, Said denied that he or SJP Ryerson organized the walkout. He however reiterated that he had spoken in favor of the amendment and that he wanted to “include awareness of other genocides” in the proposed Holocaust memorial event.

On December 19, 2016, the RSU  the Holocaust resolution in a revote.

SJP University of Maryland (UMD)

On November 16, 2015, SJP UMD hosted Washington, D.C.-based Reverend Graylan Hagler.

In his talk, Hagler said that he was “sick and tired of hearing about ‘THE’ Holocaust… as if there has only been one holocaust in the world at any point in history.”

Hagler also romanticized Palestinian violence against Israel and compared Palestinian terrorism to anti-police demonstrations in Black American neighborhoods.

SJP Northeastern University (NU)

On April 8, 2013, SJP NU disrupted and staged a walkout of a Holocaust Remembrance Day program hosted by the Huskies for Israel student group.

SJP NU members stood up and chanted: “Free, free Palestine!” and “No justice, no peace!” The group photographer said in Hebrew as he left the room “The Israeli army only wants war!”

In March 2014, NU administration temporarily suspended SJP for its conduct and put the group on probation for violating university standards. SJP was charged with failure to secure a permit for a walkout and was required to write a civility statement.

SJP University of South Florida (USF)

On July 30, 2014, SJP USF at the University of South Florida (USF) likened Israeli Jews to Nazis in a post on their Facebook page. The post contained an image of Hitler with the caption “We are the Master Race,” above an image of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the caption, “We are the Chosen people.”

Hatem Bazian: SJP Founder’s Abuse of the Holocaust

Who is HATEM BAZIAN?READ MORE ABOUT THE FOUNDER OF STUDENTS FOR JUSTICE IN PALESTINESJP founder, Dr. Hatem Bazian, has repeatedly abused the memory of the Holocaust in order to promote his radical anti-Israel doctrine.

During a 2016 talk to promote his book “Palestine… It Is Something Colonial," Bazian claimed that European Zionists “partnered with anti-Semites rather than actually challenging the basic assumption of anti-Semitism" by fleeing Europe during the Holocaust and founding a Jewish state.

On July 4, 2016 Bazian tweeted an article claiming that Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel “was deeply corrupted by his use of the Holocaust” and that “he trivialized the Holocaust.”

On October 22, 2015 Bazian tweeted an article, which he described as “must read,” that attempted to absolve Muhammad Amin al-Husayni (the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem from 1921 - 1937) of his alliance with the Nazis and with Hitler himself. Instead, the article portrayed al-Husayni as a victim of “Holocaust abuse.”

On July 13, 2015 Bazian tweeted an article that referred to Gaza as an “epistemic Warsaw Ghetto” only with “different Semites.”

Some of Bazian’s retweets that fixate on the Holocaust include comparisons between Israeli soldiers and Nazis, between Gaza and a Nazi extermination camp and comparing Jews emigrating from Germany to Nazis.

In 2011, Bazian headlined a national speaking tour called “Never Again for Anyone," launched on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The tour’s goal was to reveal how Zionists “exploited Nazism" and the genocide of European Jewry to build a Jewish state. The tour also aimed to link the Holocaust with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by portraying Israelis as Nazis and comparing Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto.
